Public Service Announcements
As a public service, WVEE/WAOK makes free announcements to non profit groups and churches to help promote their events. Announcements are pre - recorded and will air at various times for several weeks prior to the activity on WVEE/WAOK event.

Format
We accept press releases, flyers, public service scripts and pre recorded public service announcements on CD.

To have your event aired on our Community Public Service Calendar, or as a public service announcement mail your information to:

This free service is made available only to those who are not purchasing advertising elsewhere. Organizations that disclose there is a charge to gain entry to th eir event will be required to present proof of their non-profit status (501C3 form). Air time is limited and there is no guarantee that public service announcements will run on the radio. Remember Fax, or mail your information early (3 weeks in advance.)

Church Announcements
Church announcements are read on, "Praise with Larry Tinsley" each Sunday from 8:00 am to 12:00 p.m. . To have your event read on Sunday Morning , just mail your event information (2-3 weeks ahead of time ) to:

PSA formatting guidelines
Hardcopy PSA's should be formatted for recording by our staff or we will re write the announcement so that it is no longer than 60 seconds in length.
WAOK/WVEE cannot provide price information over the air (except to specify that a given event is free or ticketed ) Organizations that disclose there is a charge to gain entry to their event will be required to present proof of their non-profit status (501C3 form). Be sure to provide a contact number so that interested listeners can call for more information.

Public Service and Church Announcement Check List
Please follow these guidelines in submitting your announcement. Please remember all Public Service announcements, press releases and flyers will be edited.

•  Who is having the event and the name of your organization.

•  What is the event. Tell us if it's a play, concert, meeting, luncheon and who the guests and speakers, dancers or singers are.

•  Where is the event being held. Include name of School, Church, Hall and address. When you can, give us the closest major cross roads.

•  When Make sure you include the date, time and location of the event. Send it to us 3 weeks before your event.

•  Contact Who can be contacted during the day and their phone number in case we have questions

•  Prices We do not mention costs of events. We will mention if the event free, if a ticket is required or if there a donation. Organizations that disclose there is a charge to gain entry to their event will be required to present proof of their non-profit status (501C3 form).

 

"Straight Talk" Public Affairs Program
Airs Sundays 5:00 a.m. to 6:00 a.m. (coming soon on Saturdays) on WVEE and WAOK, and is hosted By Public Affairs Director, Edna Parrish.

WAOK/WVEE strives to bring relevant public affairs programming to the Greater Atlanta and surrounding communities. Topics for Straight Talk include: issues involving parenting, housing, education, faith and politics. Guests for Sunday Talk are members of the Greater Atlanta Business, Education, and Non Profit Community. Edna Parrish
Public Affairs Director/News Anchor

Edna Parrish is thrilled to be in Atlanta and a part of the WVEE & WAOK family. She joined the WAOK & WVEE team in December of 2003, as Director of Public Affairs and News Anchor. Edna brings over 20 years of radio experience from Ohio to Atlanta. You can catch Edna every weekday afternoon anchoring news from 2:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on WAOK - AM. Edna also hosts Sunday Talk 6:00 a.m. to 7:00 a.m. Sundays on WVEE & WAOK, where her interviews focus on community and family issues, politics, faith, values and current events. Edna's goal is to motivate and celebrate the untold stories and testimonies that deliver messages of hope and peace.

She combines her Midwest home girl charm and Atlanta's southern hospitality as the key ingredient to her success in serving WVEE & WAOK listeners.

Edna's first paid radio job was at WDAO FM/WAVI AM (urban/talk) in Dayton, Ohio where she served as News/Public Affairs Director, Promotions / Public Relations Director, and Announcer. From there she moved to Cincinnati, to work at WCIN AM (urban) as Director of News/Public Affairs/morning show anchor. She enjoyed a 12 year stint at WIZF FM (urban) in Cincinnati as Director of News Public Affairs, morning anchor and host of a talk show "Straight Talk Live". When the company acquired WDBZ AM (news/talk) Edna became host of the evening show "Straight Talk on The Night Side". Prior to moving to Atlanta, Edna served as Director of News and Public Affairs at Cincinnati Station WAKW-FM (Christian).

Edna graduated from The International School of Broadcasting, and attended Central State University and The Union Institute. Edna lives in Lilburn with her husband Bill Parrish who is on staff at Perimeter Church in Duluth.

Example of a 30 second announcement:

The Community Art Center will have a benefit gallery showing of various paintings by The Summer Art Class Students on Monday, January 3, at 5:30 p.m. in the Downtown Community Center, at 1501 Center Drive. For information call Mary Johnson 404-555-1212.

 

Example of a 60 second announcement:

The Community Art Center will have a benefit gallery showing of various paintings by The Summer Art Class Students, on Monday, January 3, at 5:30 p.m. in the Downtown Community Center, at 1501 Center Drive. Included in the program will be guest singer John Jones and the Grace Baptist Church Choir. In addition students from the Dance Studio will perform their new Ballet titled "Art Works. There will also be a guest lecture following the evenings program on "How to Use Water Color Paints" Refreshments will be served following the program.
